The Benefits of American-Raised Grass-Fed Beef

I absolutely love how passionate our team at Strauss Brands is about beef. Yet, it’s so much more than beef that we’re passionate about. We’re passionate about our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices that are better for us all. Nature gives us gifts and we respect them. We respect the animals and our environment, yet most importantly, we respect our consumers. It’s all interconnected – woven together.

Animal welfare is so important to our entire Strauss team, especially Tim and Randy Strauss, the third-generation owners of Strauss Brands. Our team carefully select the American family farmers we work with. We only work with farmers who are committed to raising animals ethically and humanely.

With our high standards, the herds are always raised in open pastures, free to roam and graze in nature. Our animals are never raised in confinement. These methods keep the cattle healthier. As a result, they don’t need to be treated with antibiotics and are never given growth-promoting hormones. As nature intends, their diet is 100% mixed grasses – that’s nature’s salad bar.

The meat industry’s impact on our environment has been getting a lot of attention lately. At issue, chemical runoff associated with row-crop production, such as corn and soybeans, is a large contributor to the pollution of America’s waterways and requires a large amount of fossil fuels. Yet, well-managed grazing practices help restore America’s prairies and grasslands and require very little fossil fuel to manage.

Our prairies and grasslands are vital to us all because they act as a natural filtration system for water running off into our streams, rivers and oceans. Buying grass-fed and grass-finished beef supports farmers who raise on grass. More grass = more filter = cleaner water. Who doesn’t want cleaner water?

‘Healthy’ is sometimes in debate when associated with red meat. Yet, independent studies show that grass-fed and grass-finished beef contains more conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs), more antioxidants, and a better ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids.

CLAs and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are associated with many health benefits, like better cholesterol levels and a lower risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The resulting antioxidants are not only good for the person consuming them – they actually contribute to a higher quality meat.

All of the care and dedication that our farmers and our team put into our craft really comes through in every bite. Quality from pasture to plate. The result is delicious tasting beef.

But don’t just take my word for it. Next time you’re at your local store, pick up a pound of Strauss product, and taste for yourself how all our commitment and dedication comes through in a better quality product for your family.

It’s better for the animals, better for the planet, and most importantly, better for you and your family.

Won’t you join us?

Mark Boyce is our creative director and is passionate about telling the Strauss Brand story through any and all means possible. It’s that important. When he’s not storytelling for Strauss Brands, Mark is probably enjoying the outdoors and can often be found kayaking the waterways he writes about above. It’s another reason he cares about them so.
